SI Mackay 40th Birthday

Isn't technology wonderful! Wendy's learning something to-day.

Two years ago we celebrated 40 years of service to the Mackay community. We held the SINQ  Regional Conference as part of our celebrations.

We put together a PowerPoint to share our history from our Charter to our Ruby Anniversary.

Its now been put together as a movie. Enjoy.

Getting Savvy about Memories

Our first Learn & Laugh proved to by just as we advertised a moment to enjoy each others company while learning something from a talented and inspiring woman.

Miki Boyd provided us with an insight into how we can use her business Savvy Scripts - Heirloom Memoirs to record our memories.

She led a great conversation on how memories and history can be two different things and how often we have information about fathers, grandfathers etc. which is of course very important, but how at times there is very little about the women in our family.

The take away thought from this session.

To start valuing and recording the stories of our families' women.

Learn & Laugh May 2018

A picture tells a thousand words, but it's still only part of the story.

Discuss the importance of preserving the memories of our lives, we may have the facts, but do we really know the why?

Miki Boyd , owner of Savvy Scripts - Heirloom Memoirs, Biographies and Autobiographies will provide her insights into why memories are so important to record.
Some hints to gather them and then maybe one day sooner than later you will hear the call to action because if you've ever had a grandparent or a parent pass away and thought, "I wish I had written down their stories before they passed", then you know how important it is to capture those memories while they are still here with us.

If you've ever said, "I should write a book about my life!" and then laughed, because you knew you'd never get around to writing it... you're not alone. So many people dream of putting their life down on paper, but then struggle to find the time – or where to start.

When: Wednesday 2 May 2018 @ 5.45pm for 6pm

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day Mackay 2018

Over 40 people gathered at the Bluewater Quay in Mackay to take part in this world wide event.

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day was a theme of One World...One Breath and occurs on the last Saturday of April at 10am in over 80 nations and 100s of cities.

From the beginning of Soroptimism, the purpose of the organisation was service to the community.

So with this purpose in mind Soroptimist International of Mackay supported the local Tai Chi Teachers by providing and serving refreshments for the Annual World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.

This activity involved the core values of Soroptimism by educating the participants in an activity, that may enhance their lives, in a safe and healthy environment and  to encourage conversation and friendship after the tai chi.

We even made international World Tai Chi & Qigong newsletter click here on this link:  newsletter and scroll through and see all the other countries.
